MI-11: Dems gain pickup opportunity as McCotter fails to qualify

Oops.

MIRS is reporting that Thad McCotter did not turn in enough petition signatures to qualify for the ballot.

That leaves someone named Kerry Bentivolio as the only Republican whose name will appear in the August primary ballot. And Republicans don't seem happy. Instead, they appear to be looking for a write-in to run against Bentivolio. One name being floated is Attorney David Trott, whose ties to the Republican war on freedom were exposed by Michigan Messenger in 2008.

Democrats William Roberts and Syed Taj are running on the Democratic side; from what I can tell, Dr. Taj, a Canton Township trustee, seems to have a lot of backing from Dems in that area.

Obama won the new 11th by a hair.

Folks, I think we have a contest. MI-01 and MI-03 are also excellent pickup opportunities for Democrats this fall. (Disclaimer: I work for a candidate in MI-03.)
