Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meetup for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing is welcome. From 1 Timothy 2:1:
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior…”As we are all aware, our President is being viciously maligned just for looking out for the needs of ordinary people. Today in church, we were asked to read a prayer for "religious liberty." It is, of course, part of the national bishops'"fortnight for freedom" - which, as you know, should really be called a "fortnight against our President."
While certain people pray for "religious liberty," I would like to pray* for the person they are attacking: Our President.
Some people have gone to extreme lengths to humiliate, demean, undermine, and otherwise attack our President. They are stopping job-creating legislation from passing, thus hurting the unemployed. They are denying people their right to vote in order to deny our President the chance to continue to lead. Tomorrow, we will find out if they are successful in suing to deny people adequate healthcare.
Let us pray*, then, that we may always have the fortitude to stand up for what is right - to stand up for the freedoms that are really under attack. Let us also pray* for those who are being harmed by those who would attack our President.
May God bless our President, may God bless the less fortunate in our country and our world, and may God bless the Daily Kos community.
